Nick the Greek was an ambassador from Greece in 1933 he came to America to be in Washington D.C. while here he was taken on tour of the west where he was introduced to the game of Baccarat in which he won $5,000. in those days that was a fortune, so he resigned as ambassador and became the worlds premier gambler of the day!
Two men of varied backgrounds, one a man with numbers in his vernacular the other with numbers in his subconscious and they both had the odds of the gods of gaming, while Nick the Greek was a lover of Baccarat he played all the games and would play endlessly for days and weeks on end with out sleep.
On the other hand Jimmy the Greek would study the teams and find a common denominator in order to pick the winners, he did this with horse racing with admirable success. These two men would meet only once in their life. a game between Johnny Moss the notorious Texan and Nick the Greek, word was they did not like each other to well.
What a gambler! When Nick the Greek came to America in 1933
during the great depression and I challenge anyone to prove to me it was
"Great" depression or any other great!!!! He was an Ambassador from Greece he was escorted by the
Secretary of State around the nation and when he came to Las Vegas he
was introduced to the game of Baccarat, at this game he won $5,000. and
promptly resigned as Ambassador to take to his new calling as the
greatest gambler to ever play the game no one before or since has
amassed a fortune like Nick the Greek.
Does a billion and a half dollars tell you any thing about a fortune? Well I guess that is a little money, I heard that he died broke! Incredible, broke why? I also heard he left half a billion to heirs so what is true and what is not true is questionable.
His game was one that snared losers to his table, he would lose
and that would be a small thing, because the next game the stakes were
higher and he would somehow win! Nick the Greek was in the hospital
Christmas eve of 1966 when he died. Nicholas Andreas Dandolas was born
on the Island of Crete in the year 1883. Later in life he would be
known as the King of Gamblers!
There is a whole lot more to the story of this incredible person,
when he died in 1966 every known celebrity he knew attended his funeral
and Frank Sinatra actually is said to have been in tears! Ironically
this King of Gamblers graduated from the Greek Evangelical College!
